Biography

Dr. Emily K. Sandoz (she/they) is proud to serve as the Director of the University Honors Program. Emily’s relationship with UL Lafayette’s Honors Program began around 1998, when they joined the program as an Honors Student, and deepened when they started in Honors as a student worker in 1999. For Emily, Honors provided some of the most impactful educational experiences of their career, providing some of the first lessons about what it means to be a scholar – that is, what it means to be a life-long learner.

In the twenty-five or so years since graduating with their Honors Baccalaureate, Emily has continued to develop as a scholar. They are the Emma Louise LeBlanc Burguieres/BORSF Endowed Professor of Social Sciences, and a Full Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ at Lafayette. Emily is also the Director of the ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Contextual Science Research Group, which supports collaborative contributions from students and professionals from all over the world.

They have co-authored books, chapters, and journal articles on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), contextual behavioral science, social justice, clinical behavioral processes, and psychological flexibility. Emily practices as a Clinical Psychologist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, focusing on clinical behavior analysis, and has led more than 100 training workshops for professionals around the world.

And they are still learning. Today, Emily’s aim is to learn how to best bring these professional experiences to bear to help make Honors a place that nurtures students from all different backgrounds into scholars thriving in all different settings, occupations, and industries.
