Our CACREP-accredited master’s in counselor education curriculum ensures that you will meet all of the educational requirements to sit for your licensing or certification test—and our professors will make sure you’re ready for it. Our graduates, from both the clinical mental health counseling and school counseling concentrations, have a 100% pass rate on their respective licensing or certification tests.

After completing the counselor education graduate degree program, you’re well equipped for a range of counseling careers. Our students go on to become marriage and family counselors, school counselors, career counselors, mental health counselors, play therapists, substance abuse counselors, and more. They work in schools, clinics, and in private practices, and administer counseling techniques to individuals and groups.In fact, we have 91% job placement rate for our school counseling graduates and a 94% job placement rate for our clinical mental health counseling graduates.

Part of our student’s success comes down to the hands-on, real-world experience they gain at UL Lafayette. Our students work closely with clients in our on-campus Clinic for Counseling and Personal Development (CCPD). Under the supervision of experienced faculty, students in the counselor education graduate program provide counseling services to members of the local community, as well as the students and employees at UL Lafayette and their families. In the CCPD, we offer individual, family, and couples counseling, plus group and play therapies.

Having these opportunities to interact directly with clients and to learn first hand how to relate and provide high quality counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults will leave you with an impressive resume - all before you graduate.
