I was born and raised in Lafayette, LA.

Where I Am

I am currently in my 4th semester of the Electrical Engineering M.S.E. program and plans to graduate this summer. 

Where I'm Going

My next step is to apply to an Electrical Engineering Ph.D. program. 

Gabriel Roy, originally from Lafayette, LA, is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at UL Lafayette. With a strong foundation in Electrical Engineering from his undergraduate studies at UL Lafayette, where he graduated in 2022, Gabriel seamlessly transitioned into the master's program.

Gabriel's journey in academia has been marked by a fervent passion for research and hands-on experience. During his undergraduate years, he delved deeply into research, particularly focusing on vehicle-to-vehicle communications and the impact of mobility on such systems. His dedication led him to collaborate with esteemed Ph.D. scholars, honing his skills in reconfigurable hardware for FPGA.

Opting to pursue graduate studies was a natural progression for Gabriel, who was drawn to the close-knit academic community and research opportunities at UL Lafayette. Under the mentorship of Dr. Bayoumi, Gabriel has thrived in the VLSI Lab, actively participating in cutting-edge projects and benefiting from Dr. Bayoumi's extensive network.

In his current semester, Gabriel has been immersed in exploring beamforming optimization using machine learning, demonstrating his commitment to pushing boundaries in his field. He cherishes the connections he's forged with faculty and peers, highlighting the collaborative and supportive environment within the department.

Outside of academics, Gabriel has excelled in extracurricular pursuits, securing internships and earning honors for his outstanding achievements. His favorite experience at UL Lafayette has been the opportunity to mentor fellow students, both as a peer mentor during his undergraduate years and as a TA throughout his master's program. Gabriel finds immense fulfillment in helping his peers grasp challenging course material, an experience he values deeply.

Reflecting on his journey, Gabriel advises prospective students to consider the unique advantages of UL Lafayette, emphasizing the homely atmosphere, supportive faculty, and ample networking opportunities.
