Medieval & Early Modern Studies

With classes throughout the College of Liberal Arts and the College of the Arts, you will collect a broad range of skills with a minor in medieval and early modern studies. 

Choose from over 30 classes across 10 different disciplines to shape this minor to your own interests. Study the works of Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Milton, or explore French and Spanish literature. Philosophize in classes on Plato and Aristotle or study the history of art and architecture. Explore the fascinating world of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. 

No matter what your major is, a minor in medieval and early modern studies can benefit you. STEM students will be exposed to new ideas and understand the origins of the modern world. Liberal arts students will discover new perspectives to apply in their major

Experience Shakespeare's Globe Theater in Lafayette

Watch live productions of Shakespeare’s greatest plays – without leaving campus. The UL Lafayette Department of English hosts a Globe Theater film series every semester. 

Study the Renaissance Abroad

The Study Abroad program offers classes studying history and culture in England, France, and Italy. Travel to Italy to explore Renaissance architecture or England to focus on Shakespeare.
