The Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation announced today a fundraising campaign for renovations to M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at Russo Park in the form of a challenge.
The Home Run Challenge is seeking 500 donors of $100 or more by Aug. 15 for the Russo Park Stadium Project. Upon reaching that goal, the campaign will secure an additional $100,000 in challenge gifts from supporters.
“This campaign is about asking people to invest in a stadium that benefits the entire community,” said Jim Harris, RCAF executive director.
In addition to the Home Run Challenge, Harris said University officials are meeting with supporters about larger gifts for the renovation.
RCAF has raised three-fourths of the funding from individual and corporate contributors for the second phase of $16.8 million in renovations for Russo Park.
“Now, we are seeking the community’s support with gifts of all levels. Challenge donations through mid-August are projected to raise about a quarter of a million dollars toward our overall efforts,” said Harris.
Donors who contribute $100 or more will be recognized with their names on a campaign plaque to be installed inside the Russo Park for the 2018 season. Individual gifts, along with corporate matching gifts, will be counted toward the RCAF Priority Points program.
A limited edition inaugural Russo Park commemorative baseball signed by head baseball coach Tony Robichaux will be offered for donations of $1,000 or more.
Donors who give $2,500 or more will be invited to a baseball preseason dinner with Robichaux and Director of ֱ Bryan Maggard. For a donation of at least $5,000, donors will be invited to a 2018 baseball game in the athletic director’s suite.
“We are asking our loyal fans, as well as all community members, to step up to the plate and support Russo Park stadium as a great asset of Acadiana,” said Robichaux.
The coach said Russo Park will attract the best recruits, opponents and post-season competitions. It further will enhance the region’s economy, while serving the community for youth camps and high school games.
Phase II of the project includes a raised grandstand, improved concession areas, and increased seating capacity.
Home Run Challenge donations will be collected at the remaining 2017 Ragin’ Cajuns home baseball games and online. For information about the campaign and to donate, visit .
