Continuing Education Courses Offer Business Basics

LAFAYETTE – UL Lafayette Continuing Education offers the following courses in September:  “Diversity Training,” “Employment Law” and “Business Ethics: Approaches to Creating an Ethical Workplace.”

• “Diversity Training” Learn to identify stereotypes; understand what terms are politically correct and which are not, and why; develop a technique for dealing with inappropriate behavior; and know what to do if you or one of your employees feels discriminated against.
Sept. 24, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., fee:  $250

• “Employment Law” Learn the basics of employment law, including the common law test and statutory employers, wrongful discharge, employment discrimination under federal and ޻ֱ law, federal and state administrative and judicial processes for handling employment discrimination claims, noncompetition agreements, First Amendment rights, and recent developments in the law.

• “Business Ethics: Approaches to Creating an Ethical Workplace”
Public trust in the integrity of business has declined in recent years as corporate scandals and financial meltdowns dominate the headlines. Businesses rely on their reputation to develop and maintain goodwill with customers, communities and regulators. This course reviews tactics that businesses can use to communicate expectations for ethical behavior, develop policies that support ethical behavior, and manage issues that contribute to the overall integrity of their reputation.
