Events Set to Spice Up Homecoming 2009

The 2009 UL-Lafayette Homecoming celebration will begin this Sunday, Oct. 18 and events will take place throughout the week. This year’s theme is The Spice is Right. All events lead up to the big game as ޻ֱ’s Ragin’ Cajuns, who are undefeated in conference play, take on Sun Belt foe Florida Atlantic.

Homecoming events begin with a mass and reception at Our Lady Wisdom Catholic Church on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

On Monday, Oct. 19, the Alumni Association will host a kick-off party at the Alumni Center, located on St. Mary Boulevard at 5 p.m.

Tuesday will ޻ֱ the UL Foundation’s Distinguished Donors Reception. The event will place at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette starting at 6:30 p.m.

The annual Paint the Town Red Contest will be on Wednesday, with business judging from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Friday will be jam-packed with many events including:

• The conclusion of the Paint the Town Red Contest, with school judging from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• A tennis tournament from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Red’s Health Club.

• The Bill Bass Open Golf Tournament at 11 a.m. at Acadian Hills Country Club.

• Ragin’ Cajuns Letterman Club Hall of Fame Reception from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Les Saisons at a’ la carte.

• Paint the Town Red will take over Downtown Alive! as 5th Avenue takes the stage at 5:30 p.m.

• The homecoming concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Angelle Hall Auditorium.

Saturday’s activities will begin with running and end with singing:

• The Ragin’ Road Race (5K Fun Run) at 8 a.m. at the Alumni Center with an open house from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

• The Red Jackets Reunion will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Alumni Center as well as the viewing of the homecoming parade.

• This year’s homecoming parade will begin at 10 a.m. and last about two hours.

• The Home Economics Luncheon will take place at Don’s Seafood and Steakhouse, downtown from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• The Ragin’ Red Tailgating Cook-off and Alumni Tailgating will be at 1 p.m. at Cajun Field.

• This year’s homecoming events will coincide with the Acadiana Wine and Food Festival from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum.

• The Homecoming Game is set for 4 p.m. at Cajun Field.

• Homecoming 2009 will wrap up with Christina Smith “Sweet Sounds of Sharing” at the Alumni Center starting at 8 p.m.
