More than 85 exceptional high school students who are now incoming freshmen rubbed shoulders with UL Lafayette’s administration and faculty this week. The high-academic achievers were invited to the President’s Scholars Luncheon at Dupre Library.
Among the group were two sets of twins, who were 4.0 graduates in high school.
“ UL Lafayette is a great university that is close to home,” said Elizabeth Pollard, a mass communication student. “I feel like attention is paid to me and it is what I need in a university.” Her sister, Julie, is studying health information management. Both girls are Teurlings High School graduates.
Kelsey Etheredge has been around campus most of her life. She credits that to her parents – James and Winona Etheredge – who both teach at UL Lafayette.
“ I’ve been acquainted with the university for a long time,” she said. “That’s one reason I chose to go here.”
She is studying chemistry and eventually wants to attend medical school. Her sister Cory is studying mechanical engineering. Both girls were 4.0 graduates at Lafayette High School.
UL Lafayette President Joseph Savoie called the luncheon much more than a time for food.
“ We are demonstrating in a real way that the university wants to contribute to your success,” he said. “We want you to succeed because you are a great talent. We want to be your partner.”
