ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Ragin' Cajuns announce Billy Napier as head football coach

Billy Napier is the new head coach of the ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Ragin’ Cajuns football team.

He is the 26th head coach in the program’s history.

Napier comes to the Ragin’ Cajuns from Arizona State University, where he served as associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Director of ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Dr. Bryan Maggard announced Napier’s hiring Friday. 

“We are absolutely thrilled to identify a head football coach with the experience and success that Billy Napier brings to the University of ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ at Lafayette,†Maggard said.

“Coach Napier is highly respected within the coaching profession and brings tremendous experience from nationally-ranked programs. He is widely considered to be one of America’s top recruiters and offensive minds and will instill the values of a championship program into Ragin’ Cajuns football.â€

Napier will be introduced during a press conference at noon Monday, Dec.18 at the Cajundome.

“My family and I are excited and humbled for the opportunity to serve Cajun Nation and our ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ football program,†Napier said. “We will make it a priority to bring in the best talent from the state of ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ and the nation.â€

He served as wide receivers coach at the University of Alabama, the assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach at Colorado State University, and was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Clemson University in South Carolina.

At Alabama, Napier was instrumental in the Crimson Tide’s 2011 and 2015 national championships. He has coached in 11 bowl games.

His hiring is pending approval by the University of ÃŞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ System Board of Supervisors.
