The UL Lafayette Sport Shooting Team knocked down third place at the Association of College Unions International Clay Targets Tournament.
More than 60 colleges and universities participated in the national tournament from March 25-31 in San Antonio. UL Lafayette competed against 26 of those schools in the Division 3 classification.
The UL Lafayette Sport Shooting Team includes: Thomas Dailey, Lafayette; Dolzie Dupuis, Kaplan; Shawn Dupuis, Kaplan; Andrew Gauthier, team captain, Lafayette; Bach Holbert, Lafayette; Selleck Leblanc, Breaux Bridge and Josh Raley, New Orleans.
Their Top Three team finish came behind champion George Mason University and runner up Purdue University.
UL Lafayette logged three silver medals in individual events during the tournament. Those second-place event finishes came in sporting clays, five-stand and international skeet. The team also placed fifth in the American skeet event.
All of the events involve some form of skeet-style shooting, in which participants using shotguns target small, clay discs that are propelled into the air from any of several types of 鈥渉ousing鈥 mechanisms.
Some factors that mark differences between specific events include the location of launch points, number of clay discs launched at once and size of the disc.
The Association of College Unions International has sponsored the tournament for 45 years. It is a nonprofit education organization founded in 1914 for college union and student professionals from hundreds of schools in seven countries, according to information posted on its website.
