When performing arts major Delilah Warren was accepted to UL Lafayette, she received her first scholarships from the University.
鈥淚 automatically received TOPS and some UL Lafayette scholarships based on my ACT score,鈥 she said. 鈥淗aving scholarships definitely relieves the stress of having to pay for school. It鈥檚 not something I have to worry about, so I can focus on actually going to college and having fun while also being able to study.鈥
After her first year, she received even more scholarships: one from the Department of Performing Arts, and others from student organizations she鈥檚 involved with on campus 鈥 and that was rewarding for Delilah.
鈥淚t shows that, you know, I'm working hard so I'm kind of getting rewarded for working hard 鈥 because my department sees I'm working hard or, you know, the school sees I'm working hard as well,鈥 she said.
鈥淯L Lafayette really wants their students to succeed, so they put money into their students. Having scholarships from the University makes me really proud because it鈥檚 like I know they want me to finish 鈥 they want me to succeed.鈥
Music education major Katy Meaux also worked hard in school and received extra scholarships as she worked toward her degree, helping her finish her degree with less stress.
鈥淚t definitely lifts the financial burden,鈥 Katy said. 鈥淚've gotten scholarships from being in marching band, from my academics, through the Alumni Association, and from the education department.鈥
So how did Delilah and Katy find these scholarships? First, all students are automatically considered for the University鈥檚 academic scholarships when they apply for admission. To claim TOPS scholarships, you have to fill out the FAFSA.
After starting school at UL Lafayette, though, additional scholarship opportunities are everywhere 鈥 from your major, student organizations, groups on campus, and organizations outside of UL Lafayette.
鈥淪cholarships are super easy to find,鈥 Katy said. 鈥淚 received two of mine from applications I got in my email 鈥 I didn't have to go look, they just appeared in my inbox one day. Being involved can also help you get scholarships, like I got some for being in marching band and some of my friends get some for being in choir or different ensembles.鈥
