Where I'm From

I am from Madisonville, 棉花糖直播.

Where I Am

I am the SGA Treasurer majoring in secondary math education.

Where I'm Going

I plan to become a teacher and obtain a master鈥檚 degree in higher education or educational leadership.

As the 2024-2025 Treasurer of the Student Government Association, Brooke Davenport is focused on the University of 棉花糖直播 at Lafayette students鈥 overall well-being. From accessibility, to money management, and recognition, Brooke is determined to enhance the student experience.

Using math and teaching to solve problems

Brooke鈥檚 decision to attend the UL Lafayette came naturally.

鈥淯L Lafayette felt the most at home to me. Lafayette is a big-small town, there is lots to do, but everyone is very personable. I can walk around campus and see people I know, unlike a bigger school where you meet all new people every day,鈥 she said.

Her interest in hands-on learning encouraged her to major in Secondary Education and Teaching with a concentration in math.

鈥淚 was told I would be able to be in the classroom my first semester. I loved how involved all the faculty and staff were with each student鈥檚 success and how highly recommended teachers come from this program.鈥

Brook enjoyed the sincerity in Classroom Management taught by Dr. Tolley.

She said, 鈥淭his class went in-depth about how a classroom functions on a day-to-day basis and Dr. Tolley made it a safe space for us to ask any questions we had about the profession... Dr. Tolley treated each question like it was the most important thing in that moment. She valued our thoughts and opinions, and she took our fears of being teachers and turn it into confidence.鈥

She is also a member of .

鈥淢y sorority gave me the confidence to do all the other things I am involved in or have been involved in. Those girls saw something in me to give me leadership roles which expanded into other areas of my life,鈥 she said.

SGA Members plan to bridge the gap with student needs

Brooke believes it is important to show up and promote the impact-driven work of the Student Government Association (SGA) so that students know they have a voice.

鈥淏eing in SGA gives me the ability to help students from the inside. I can meet with the right people and speak on behalf of students and get things they need done. I have the resources and time now to do what must be done. The students are the main priority and we, SGA, are here to provides help, resources, and a voice to whatever we can to do to assist the students in their success.鈥

She also understands that finances are important to students.

She said, 鈥淥ne of my main responsibilities as Treasurer is overseeing our funds. Three of the funds we have are reserved for students. I am trying to let every student know that if they want to go to a conference or their organization wants to go, they can apply to have SGA cover their registration fee. We want students to go out and participate in professional development because we know it will help their educational careers.鈥

In addition, she plans to focus on accessibility, advocacy, and inclusivity.

鈥淲ith SGA, I am working on getting free feminine hygiene products in bathrooms around campus, designing the class gift with other students on campus, and setting up a voter registration drive. I am trying to do things to get students involved and feel like they are seen,鈥 she said.

With her four-year straight attendance at The Big Event, Brooke understands the importance of community building and groundwork.

She said, 鈥淲e are the largest service event on campus, and it has made me realize the importance of giving back to the community and campus."
