Susan Edney, 2007 Homecoming Queen for the University of ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ at Lafayette, will reign over Homecoming Week activities starting Oct. 14.
Edney, the wife of Doug Edney and daughter of Ron and Judi Sarver of Lafayette, was nominated by the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association to receive this honor. She is a senior majoring in speech pathology/audiology.
She is a member of the NSSLHA and the Communicative Disorders honor society. Edney is also participates in Wesley Campus Ministry and is a volunteer for Family Promise. She is an active member of the First United Methodist Church, is a member of the Association of Future Alumni and has been on the Dean’s List since 2004.
She and her husband have four children: Allison, Tanner, Olivia and Cooper.
Maids of the court are Chloe Angelle, Britany Cormier, Latoya Celestin and Summer Marler.
Angelle, a senior in secondary education with a concentration in Social Studies, ws nominated by the Ragin’ Jazz Dance team. She is the daughter of Chris and Lesley Angelle of Carencro.
She is the captain of the Ragin’ Jazz and is a member of the Association of Future Alumni. In addition, she is a dance instructor/choreographer at The Dance Place Inc. and is an aerobics instructor at Red Lerille’s Health and Racquet Club. After graduation she plans to teach at the high school level while continuing to pursue a career in dance.
Cormier, a junior in psychology, was nominated by Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She is the daughter of Jade and Troy Richard of Kingwood, Texas, and Chris Cormier of Sunset.
She is president of the Panhellenic Council and the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. She is member development chair and standards board for Delta Delta Delta Sorority. In addition, Cormier serves on the University Program Council Executive Board and is a member of the Ragin’ Peppers, the Student Orientation Staff, UPC Spirit Committee, UPC Traditions Committee, UPC Events Committee and Association of Future Alumni. She serves as Social Chair for the Blue Key Honor Society, and also participates in the Psychology Colloquium and Up Til Dawn event.
Cormier has volunteered with St. Jude fundraisers and is a member of the Girl’s Group at Our Lady of Wisdom.
Celestin, a senior in child and family studies, was nominated by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She is the daughter of Donnie and Lynette Wolfe Celestin of Houma.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and is on the Women’s Track and Field Team at UL Lafayette.
Marler, a senior in marketing, was nominated by Alpha Omicron Pi. She is the daughter of Larry and Gayle Marler of Mansura.
With Alpha Omicron Pi, Marler serves as vice president of Chapter Relations, vice president of Administration, Vice President of Education, social chair and public relations chair. She is also president of the Ragin’ Peppers and is treasurer for Diamond Darlings. She is a member of the Association of Future Alumni, Order of Omega, Who’s Who Among College Students, Rho Lambda Honor Society, Gamma Chi, Mu Kappa Tau Honor Society and Business Honors.
Nominees for the Homecoming Court are submitted by campus organizations. The court is chosen by the senior football players after being interviewed by student leaders.
