Wearing Red On Sept. 3 Might Pay Off

Published

UL Lafayette is once again inviting everyone to celebrate Wear Red Day on Sept. 3. The fifth annual event is being held in conjunction with National College Colors Day.

Fans are encouraged to participate in school, business and sign competitions. Here’s how each works:

• School contest: The Wear Red Champion award will be given to the school that is most creative in wearing red with a plaque to proudly display at the school. In addition, this year’s winner will receive a Deano’s pizza party featuring special ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥â€™s Ragin’ Cajuns® pizza. Because many schools have their own spirit shirt day on Fridays, schools can wear red on any day during the week of Aug. 30 – Sept. 3.

• Business contest: Three categories including small, medium and large businesses will compete for the highest percentage of employees wearing red. The winning businesses will be recognized as 2010 Wear Red Champions during an on-field presentation at a home football game this Fall.

• Creative sign contest: UL Lafayette will recognize the most creative Wear Red slogan or catch phrase that is displayed at your business location. This message should be displayed on the company’s outdoor sign or electronic marquee. The winning business will be presented with a plaque during an on-field presentation at a home football game this Fall.

To enter these competitions, schools and businesses should take a photo of everyone wearing red and post it to the Wear Red Facebook page at or email the photo to wearred@louisiana.edu by Sept. 13. The same submission policy should be followed for the slogan/sign competition. Please also include the number of people in the photos along with the total number of students or employees at your school or business.

All winners will be announced at the Sept. 25 home football game.
