Curriculum:

  • Elements necessary in an organization for effective administrative control are covered. Emphasis is on the 鈥渦se鈥 rather than the 鈥渟upplying鈥 of accounting data. Completion of MBA 500 or equivalent is required.

    Application of microeconomic tools to business decision making; topics include theoretical and empirical demand and cost functions, pricing under various market conditions and regulatory constraints, short run and long run planning, and domestic and international conditions influencing the firm鈥檚 profitability and growth.

    Course provides a framework for understanding broad issues and analyzing specific topics which affect international business activities in an increasingly interdependent world. The course promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to integrating various facets of international business operations.

    Application of analytical techniques to the firm鈥檚 investment, financing, and dividend decisions in keeping with the objective of maximizing shareholder wealth.

    Provides guidelines for developing marketing plans and programs while emphasizing the application of marketing concepts, tools, and decision making processes.

    Situational analysis and strategic formulation, implementation, and control in health care organizations. Specific approaches such as mergers, diversification, vertical integration, and joint ventures. All core courses must be completed or taken concurrently.

  • Information management, systems, and technology related to strategic positioning and day-to-day administrative, financial, and clinical operations of health care organizations.

    A general overview of the U.S. health care system. Basic components will include characteristics, history, and evolution of U.S. health care services, financing of health care services, and impact of technology on delivery of health care.

    Emphasis on continuous quality improvement from a system perspective. Discussion of organizational transformation to a quality culture, quality care outcomes, innovation, and internal/external consumer relationships.

  • Contemporary jurisprudence governing the American health care delivery system. Examination of traditional legal and medical relationships in the context of economic and ethical rules of conduct.

    Public policy/regulations and principles of finance and financial decision making applied to health services. Public and private mechanisms for financing the treatment of illness and needs of special population groups.

    Current issues in the administration of health care organization.

  • Independent graduate level study under the direction of a health practitioner at a program approved health facility.

*Relevant work experience is defined as including but not limited to career progression and/or, managerial experience, and/or supervisory experience, and/or management of the budget and other organizational resources.

**Applicants with an overall undergraduate GPA below a 2.75 with at least 5 years of relevant work may be considered for a GMAT waiver on a case-by-case basis. Relevant work experience will be evaluated by the MBA Graduate Coordinator based on the demonstration of extensive and/or significant managerial, supervisory, or executive work experience. The GMAT, resume, and/or letters of reference may also be waived for applicants with a graduate grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on all previously earned graduate degrees.

We use a portfolio approach that allows stronger aspects of your application 鈥 for example, strong letters of reference or professional experience 鈥 to compensate for weaker parts, such as lower test scores or GPA.

Applicants who hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree, with primary instruction in English, from an accredited institution in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand are not required to demonstrate English proficiency. All other applicants must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting satisfactory Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing Services (IELTS), or Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) official scores.

Because courses in this program will only be available online, the program may not be available to all applicants. The University of 棉花糖直播 at Lafayette and its online programs must be in compliance in every state where a student is located. International students also may not be eligible. According to U.S. immigration regulations, F-1 students cannot pursue online degrees; international students in other visa categories (i.e., H-4, L2) are exempt from this restriction.

The MBA Health Care Administration degree program consists of 39 credit hours, with 18 hours from the Business Core, 15 hours of Health Care Administration courses, and 6 hours of internship credit by participating in two internships within a healthcare organization. Depending on your previous undergraduate business courses, you may need up to 15 additional semester hours (foundation courses). There is no thesis requirement.
